Sixty-four women, ranging in age from 18 to 60+, serving on five continents, converged on Phuket today. Some knew one or two others, and others came alone. All came with a desire for renewal and refreshment. They are eagerly anticipating this time away from regular duties and responsibilities, and expecting God to do great things this week. J hasn’t been on vacation for 6 years. D is looking for some good “girl time”, filled with laughter and tears. E is lonely and wants to find a like-minded friend. M is in a difficult field of ministry and just needs a break that would bring her closer to God. Many are seeking discernment about transitions in their lives. N wants to worship in her own language, rather than that of her country of service.
A mother-daughter pair is here from Europe. S, an 18-year-old daughter, is anticipating a special time alone with her mom, as she is one of many siblings. Additionally, she is at a crossroads in life, determining her next steps as she launches into adulthood.
We’ve already seen God move in a special way when He put roommates together. Two women, similar in age yet in totally different fields of service, were placed together. After just two hours, you would have thought they had known each other for years.
Many had never heard of Thrive before this retreat came along. They are pleasantly surprised at the lovely surroundings, the servant-hearted volunteers from all over the US, and the quality of teaching offered. We pray that over the next few days, each woman will be re-energized and renewed for the time of ministry ahead.
