Why do global workers come to a Thrive retreat? Many women are exhausted, experiencing heavy workloads, burnout, and the constant responsibilities of caring for others. They are hoping for a time to rest, to be hugged, to be pampered, to experience God’s presence, and to step away from the demands of everyday life. Many global women are so busy with ministry that these seemingly basic needs often go unmet.
Each day begins in a time of worship through prayer and song, then moves into Bible teaching. We are learning from 1 Peter how to be “holy oddballs”. D, and many others, are thrilled to worship in English. It’s truly a holy moment when 90 women unite to lift their voices in song, inviting God into our presence. This brings spiritual refreshment.
Afternoons are spent in self-care appointments. M was excited about her first pedicure and facial. C was looking forward to time with a life coach, and S was looking forward to a time of extended prayer. Some just want to relax on the beach. Many women in ministry are lonely, due to location, language barriers, and feeling disconnected from people who understand their experiences. This retreat provides the freedom to be known and accepted and to connect with others who “get them”.
Each session is an opportunity for our Lord to say, “I hear you, I see you, I care about you.” He meets their specific need for prayer, counsel, physical touch, or rest. Even just a brief respite can reinvigorate a woman for her return to her field of service. That’s Thrive’s goal: Replenishing women ministering overseas.
