“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him.”
Psalms 91:1-2

“Do you trust me?” This is a popular movie question. Often it is the male character asking the leading lady this deep question before they take the daring next move in the adventurous plot. She has a moment to decide and then they take hands and leap. Trust. It’s a word with profound meaning and offers an opportunity to make a commitment. It’s a word that lies at the foundation of every deep relationship. Trust.

How much do you trust God today? On a scale of 1 to 10, where would you measure your trust level? I think our response to that question can vary depending on the week or the situation. Trust is foundational but I think it is something we need to remind ourselves to do. Do I trust God? Yes. Did I live like I trusted God in the challenging situation I was in last month? Not all the time. I had to remind myself that God knew my situation and that He had a plan. I needed to remember that He is faithful and was leading me in that moment. The Bible tells us to trust God more than a hundred times! God knew we would need the reminder. Psalms 91:1 says it well, “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him.”

So in the challenge that you are going through today or in the one you will walk through tomorrow, remember to trust. You can picture Jesus next to you, holding out His hand and asking you gently, “Do you trust Me?” Respond with the faith that you have in that moment and continue walking forward. And it’s ok if your prayer is, “God, I trust but help me trust You more.” That is a beautiful, honest prayer.

Closing Prayer
Father, life shakes me sometimes, but You alone are consistent. Help me to trust You through all the ups and downs. Remind me when I start to lose focus to turn my eyes back on You. Thank You for Your faithfulness. I love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Question for Reflection

How much do you trust God today? On a scale of 1 to 10, where would you measure your trust level? What is an area that you can choose to trust God more in today?

This devotional served as a very timely reminder for me to trust God! I wrote this in the morning and that afternoon I received some very unexpected news. A ministry I had been serving with for 6 years was taking a new direction and phased out my role. Lots of emotions ran through my heart! My identity was shaken a bit as this role was a big part of what I did. And then I remembered what I had written that morning. God was gently asking me, “Do you trust Me in this situation?” And I am choosing to respond, “Yes, Father, I give this to You. You know and I can trust You.”
