God never hides an evil thing in a pretty package. Like it says in Luke 11:11-12, our good Father won’t give us a serpent when we ask for a fish, or a scorpion in place of bread. Our God gives good gifts to His children.
However, sometimes God disguises His good gifts in packages we aren’t attracted to. He gives us something beautiful like patience in the package of waiting, or joy in the package of trials (James 1:2). The amazing thing is that, if God is giving us a less desirable package, we can trust that there is something good to be unwrapped. All we have to do is trust the Father’s heart for us enough to open the package.
Being shut in my house, unable to pursue the ministry I knew God was calling me to for a season, was not what I would have considered desirable. However, as I took the time to unwrap what God was doing beneath the ugly wrapper, I found the gift of growing intimacy with Him, increased trust, and time to focus on things that He really values.
The same can be true of the revelation God gives us or the things He wants to do in our heart. He may be inviting you to grieve something that you don’t want to address. He may be trying to prune your heart. He may be partnering with you to catch the foxes that have been ravaging your vineyard (Song of Solomon 2:15). You might not feel eager to open these packages God is putting before you, but I can assure you that the gift within the wrapping is worth it.
The Father is inviting you to accept His gifts to you today. The ones beautifully wrapped with a bow and the ones that are unbecoming. Trust that His heart is good and that in every package lies a blessed promise.
Is there anything that God is speaking to you that you are scared to unwrap? Please explain.
