I was reading in Hebrews today and came across this familiar verse. “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). As I journaled about the meaning of this verse, my thoughts had to slow down to the speed of my handwriting so my mind had time to digest the truth of the verse.
God’s invitation in this verse is stunning! It’s outrageous in some ways! He invites us to come to Him for grace and mercy. He explains He is not unaware of our struggles because Jesus walked that path and He experienced the temptations. He says Jesus can sympathize with our situation! Wow, that’s generous! So when we are in our time of need, God says, “Come to Me”. We can approach His throne!
As His followers, His children, reconciled because of the cross; we can approach His throne. And if that wasn’t enough, He tells us to come BOLDLY! He says we can come with confidence that mercy and grace in our time of need is what we will receive! This is my God. This is the One I call “Father God”. He is the One I worship and follow. What a gift! His faithfulness to me astonishes me! How can I soak this truth up more so that it penetrates my thoughts and my ways of interacting with my God? I pray with the apostle Paul, “that I, being rooted and established in love, may… grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that I may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:17-19). May His love and faithfulness to us seep deeper into our hearts! May we let ourselves be loved more fully by Him because that is how He desires to love us. Thank You, God!
What is one way that you allow the truth of God’s love and faithfulness to penetrate your heart?
Listening to worship music helps me focus on God’s love and faithfulness to me. I need to be conscious to slow down and sit and contemplate His love for me.
