Jesus is interested

Jesus is interested
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Matthew 10:29-31

Ideas square-danced around my brain. Circle left then promenade. Do-si-do then sashay. Round and round they went.

I had just finished a confusing zoom meeting and couldn’t decide what to do next. Should I ask for a follow-up meeting? Should I first meet with my supervisor? What is my part in this? What is not my part in this? I want to help, but I don’t know how!

I slipped on my jacket and dashed to the walking path near my home. A brisk walk often brings me clarity.

The square-dancing continued, however, as I tried to sort out what course of action would be best. On and on I walked. On and on the ideas swirled. In mid-swirl, the phone rang.

Perfect timing! The name of a dear friend, a global worker, flashed on my phone screen. I shared my conundrum and asked for advice. As I walked along the tree-lined path, I eagerly awaited her answer. I hoped she’d tell me exactly how to handle this situation.

Her answer was brief. It was Biblical. It was beautiful!

“Jesus is interested in this.”

The dancing stopped. Yes! Jesus is interested in this!

Jesus loves us and cares about the details of our lives, of our work. He cares about the small team I help lead, the students we teach, the colleagues I connect with. He cares about zoom meetings and collaboration and decisions. He cares about you and the details of your life and your work!

My friend’s simple, yet profound reminder cut through the chaos like a laser beam. Ask Jesus, because He truly is interested.

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, to think that you, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, see me and know me and love me is so hard to comprehend. Yet, I know it’s true! All I can do is humbly bow in thankfulness. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Question for Reflection

When you are confused or unsure about a work-related decision, do you have a special place where you like to pray?

I love to walk outside in nature when I have a lot of praying to do. I also have a special “prayer chair” at home.
