“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Del Tackett’s study The Truth Project is known for this piercing question: “Do you really believe that what you believe is really real?”

That question comes to mind when we think about identity. If I asked you about your identity, I have no doubt that you’d explain who you are in Christ. But…are we living like that? How would our lives change if we really believed we are adored children of God (1 John 3:1), so much so that it spilled into our every thought and influenced our every choice?

We are new creations in Christ. He completely changes us! There’s no room for pride, because our justification is from faith through Christ (Romans 3:27-28, Philippians 3:9). He completely and totally transformed us, giving us mercy and grace through Christ (Colossians 2:13-15). He has made us new and is continuing to sanctify us in His newness. We are adored.

Sometimes I stop here. I recognize that God is making me new in Christ, but I continue to live with my old purposes and goals. I keep living for myself…just in a new way. I forget that this inside-out transformation not only transforms who I am, but also changes who I live for.

Not only are we made completely new, but we have a new purpose. We are adored, and we are ambassadors. As today’s verse exclaims, God is making His appeal through us! What an honor and responsibility. We need God’s continued transformation as He works His ministry through us.

As adored ambassadors, we are not responsible for the results of the ministry we are called to. That’s in God’s hands. We can humbly and gratefully allow Him to sanctify us through His Spirit as we seek to participate in His ministry.

Closing Prayer
Father God, We love You! We praise You for your salvation and sanctification. Thank You for working Your ministry through us and forgiving us even when we fall short (Romans 3:23). We rejoice in the security of our identity in You, and we ask for Your Holy Spirit to remind us of who we are and enable us to be Your ambassadors to a world in need of Your mercy. In Jesus’ Righteous Name we pray, Amen.

Question for Reflection

It can be hard to remember our identity and purpose as we move through busy days and seasons. What’s one way that You can remind yourself that you are an adored ambassador this week?

I want to dwell on Scripture throughout the week! I want to pick one verse to put on my mirror and in my lunch box so that I can see it throughout the week. I think I’ll ask my husband and maybe some friends to join me!
