As the volunteers prepare to head out, we ponder what we have learned this past week. C. learned that serving is not always just about going somewhere and serving others. Sometimes God changes us as we serve.
The attendees have spent many years in preparation to serve overseas. They have learned how to adapt to a new culture, learn a new language, and new cooking skills. They have had much training, yet when they finally arrive on the field, they sometimes feel forgotten. They are discouraged, tired, and often feel alone. Thrive offers them a safe place to just be themselves and to be replenished.
We learned just who a global worker is. Yes, they include pastors and church planters, but they also include teachers who allow families to stay in country without sacrificing a child’s education. They include nurses, midwives, pilots, accountants, administrators and many other support positions. We are all part of the same body, and as we learn in 1 Corinthians 12:26, if one part of the body suffers the whole body suffers with it.
God calls us to care for these women because they are our sisters. How can you help? You can raise funds to underwrite the cost of a woman at a future retreat. This is just under $1,000, but the attendee pays only a minimal amount. Do you love to shop or read? You can help provide clothing for the boutique or books for the bookstore. Visit thriveministry.org for more information.
Other ways you can encourage the global woman is to respond to her newsletters, ask questions, and listen to her when she tells you about their ministry.
As the volunteers return to their homes and their daily lives, we are committed to advocating for these women. Will you join us?
