An Unlikely, Expectant Team

An Unlikely, Expectant Team
Written by BECKY DIETZ | Photo by KARYN WARD

Let’s imagine that a photographer from Texas, a hair care specialist from southern California, and a theater teacher from Colorado walk into a fettuccine café in Rome… You have to wonder if they can even have a conversation, let alone find a good punchline for this story. But I can assure you that there is a happy ending to this scenario, because I have seen it happen. The differences fade and sacred bonds form because this unlikely crew has flown across an ocean with a common goal: bring spiritual refreshment to global workers.

These volunteers come with struggles of their own: a family funeral last week, a surgery appointment next week, a precious wandering child, a husband with business challenges. And yet they come. Some have come for their first trip out of the US, and some come for the seventeenth time. Some come facing their fears, some with homesick hearts. But they come. They come trusting the goodness of God enough that they can remind global workers that He is trustworthy.

The counselors, massage therapists, retired teachers, life coaches, nutritionists, bookkeepers, and former global workers come. They come because they share a love for Jesus. They come with the anticipation that He will be here, and they want to cooperate with Him in His restorative work. They come with Colossians 4:17 echoing in their hearts. “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.”

Will you please pray that God will use this eclectic, diverse, expectant team in amazing ways?
