The story of Moses holding his staff during the battle against the warriors of Amalek kept coming to my mind this week (Exodus 17:8-13). He grew weary so Aaron and Hur supported his arms. As long as his arms were raised, the battle continued to be won.
What a great image of teamwork! When one person is weak and can’t continue, two people on his team with the same goal come to his side, and together, they succeed! Each person had a role to play: Joshua led the men in battle, Moses interceded with the Lord, and Aaron and Hur were the supporting staff.
Teams are great! But have you ever had difficulties on your team? Satan knows how important teams are so it is no wonder that he attacks them. If he can divide your team and cause cracks in your plans, he can steal your joy and deter your ministry.
Let’s look back at Moses during the battle. He was weary and couldn’t continue on his own. Aaron and Hur come to help, and they gave him a rock to sit on. The task became too much so he needed support and he sat upon a strong rock that could handle his weight. Ladies, we have a rock to sit on.
Psalms 18:1-2 says, “I love you, Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety..”
When you become weary from the task or the relationship tensions, sit upon your rock. He is a firm foundation for you, and He can handle the weight of all that you are trying to carry.
And I hope you have someone on your team to help hold your arms up high, but if you don’t right now, God is big enough to do that for you, too. Hold out your arms to Him and trust Him with all that you are carrying. He will help you. Keep praying for your team, whether things are great or really struggling. And as you pray, remember that you are not alone. Sometimes it can feel like it but you have a firm foundation. And He will never leave you.
Who is someone that you can reach out to today to encourage or be encouraged by?
A friend from our previous field of service FaceTimed me today. I wasn’t expecting the call and was in the middle of something but accidentally pressed accept. It was a video call and our conversation was short but I was so encouraged to see them and just hear their voice again. I felt too busy to reach out to them but that short conversation reminded me how encouraging it can be to make time to talk to a friend. I want to be more purposeful in reaching out to connect with friends.
