My adopted son is adjusting well to living in a Christian home. He hasn’t had a problem replacing the scary looking stone idols from his orphanage with the idea of a loving God who knows you and cares about you. His English is improving but he still doesn’t understand all the questions asked at Sunday School. But he is realizing that the usual Sunday School answer that almost always works is, “Jesus”. When in doubt, answer “Jesus” and there’s a good chance you got the right answer.
The more of life that I live, I’m realizing there is an answer to life’s problems that almost always works…or at least it is a start in the right direction. What would you guess it is?
Worship.
When in doubt - worship God.
When afraid - worship God.
When you don’t know what to do or how to proceed - worship God.
When anxiety is paralyzing you - worship God.
When you feel the weight of the world and are overwhelmed - worship God.
When you are going about the normal, sometimes boring responsibilities of your day - worship God.
When you are so happy and thankful - worship God.
When you are starting a new phase of life or going through another transition - worship God.
When you are in the midst of a spiritual battle - worship God.
When you aren’t sure how you are going to get enough money for your next visa or support is running low - worship God.
When you are faced with a challenging health crisis - worship God.
When you are stumbling through the fog of depression - worship God.
When you're struggling as a parent and feel unprepared for this next challenge - worship God.
Why? Well, because the Bible tells us to, but also because when we worship, our perspective becomes properly aligned. We remember how small we are and how big God is and we can trust Him more with all the details of our day. Worship is our battle cry in the midst of spiritual warfare. Worship allows hope in the Lord to penetrate our mind and heart. Worship is a way of releasing our worries and stress and giving them to our God who is big enough to carry them. Worship is doing what we were created to do.
What is a way you can worship God today?
Tomorrow I get to share the Gospel message at a homeless ministry that I work with. As I practiced the message and worked on the visual that will hopefully help illustrate the Bible verses I am talking about, I was worshiping God. I was using the time He has given me to prepare to share the Good News that He has given us. This is an act of worship. As I went through the message, I thanked God for the truth in the verses, I asked Him to prepare the hearts of those who would hear.
