We were in the middle of a massive renovation project for a center for street children. The bank account was emptying as the bills kept coming. Another bill arrived and we were not sure how it was going to be paid by the deadline. So our little band of workers prayed for yet another miracle. Within a week, the exact amount needed suddenly came! When we looked into the donation and reached out to the donors, we found out that they had been praying about making a donation, and for a specific amount to give. It was revealed that they were praying the same day we were, and they gave the exact amount of what we needed! It was a miracle in the making that neither party was even aware of. God was answering our prayers the same day we were lifting them up half a world away.
This miracle reminds me of another miracle when events were perfectly timed out. The Israelites were given instructions to consecrate themselves in order to cross the Jordan River. This seemed to be an insurmountable task because the Jordan was usually flooded at this time due to the spring meltwaters from Mt. Hermon. They had to stand in faith that God was going to make a way where it seemed to be no way. Little did they know God was already addressing the situation. A landslip occurred 30 miles upstream in an area called Adam (Tell Adamiyah) so massive that it stopped the flow of water of the river. This blockage allowed the Israelites to cross on dry ground on the exact day God had told them to cross!
Whatever insurmountable or overwhelming challenge we may be facing, never underestimate the power of prayer and consecration. Our prayer brings forth faith to believe for miracles. We may not see the answer in front of us and we may think to ourselves, “How is this going to work out?” The answer may not be visible but we can believe that there will be one. We never know what God may be doing “upstream” to make our miracle happen.
How does believing that God is working “upstream” encourage and comfort you?
It helps keep my focus on Him instead of the challenges in front of me. It’s still overwhelming at times but reassuring knowing that I’m not alone in figuring out what to do or how it’s going to happen.
