Have you not known? Have you not heard? Yes, I know, and I have heard it before. But life has its moments of ups and downs and right now in one of the moments of down, I need to be reminded again of who God is and why He can be trusted. Because the desire to give up is real. The mountain in front of me is huge and the summit seems unreachable. I’m tired and not sure if I am up to continuing this journey God has me on. The question that continues to revolve around my mind is: Will I make it?
No, I will not make it if I move forward in my own strength. No, I will not make it if I keep my eye on myself and the challenges I am facing. However, with the One who is the Everlasting God, who spoke all things into existence, who never faints and who never gets weary, I can make it. Not just make it but soar up to heights like that of an eagle!
I need this reminder daily that God can be trusted to help me. Why? Because the enemy is prowling around throughout the day ready to discourage me and pull me off God’s path for me (1 Peter 5:8). Even when things are going well, the enemy uses his own daily reminders that can keep us anxious and looking for the next blow-up to occur. But if we keep our mind stayed on the truth of who God is and what He can do for us (as stated in the verses above), we will find that trusting God will become a natural instinct (see Isaiah 26:3) even when confronted with moments that have the potential to bring us down and cause us to faint and fall.
So, wherever you are right now, whether ministering overseas, homeschooling your children, back home raising support to go back to the field, or unsure about what’s next for you and your family, know that you don’t have to rely on yourself to get it right. If anything, we can celebrate that we can’t do it on our own! Because once we realize this, we open the floodgates to see how the Everlasting God steps into our situation. For ‘His power works best in weakness’, leaving us with the only suitable response of ‘boasting about our weaknesses and His power through Christ in us’ (2 Corinthians 12:9).
What situation are you currently facing that a daily dose of God’s Word would help you to trust God through it? Identify a Bible verse/passage that you can use specifically for your situation.
As I go through parenting challenges in the teen years, our focal verse has reminded me that I am not alone in this season and can trust God to be with me through it. Also, Romans 8:28, reminds me that I can trust God with my child through the ups and downs of the teenage years; that He can take all things that occur during these years and turn them around for their good in the end.
