Love's Beauty

by HEIDI J. SMITH BEAUTY Quiet time with the Lord
Love's Beauty
“Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; their faces will never be ashamed.”
Psalms 34:5

Swinging the doors open, the music swelled as the audience and I turned around to see my daughter standing in the doorway like a princess. Her long white dress fit her beautifully and her brown curls cascaded around her.

The smell of fresh flowers floated down the aisle with her, while a huge smile crossed her face. She locked eyes with her fiancé, and his face mirrored hers.

When you love someone, it shows. Your eyes sparkle and your face glows. You talk for hours and spend every minute together.

Until life gets busy and you lose sight of why you love each other. You have a choice to reconnect or stay disconnected.

The same is true in our walk with the Lord.

We love and serve the Lord, but life gets busy. Trials come, and we grow weary and discouraged. Our quiet time becomes a duty rather than a desire to sit with our Lord.

We forget that He never changes and is waiting to comfort us. He longs for a relationship with us.

We need to confess our sins, allow him to carry our problems, and focus on who He is. As we seek Him, hope fills us and the Lord’s beauty shines through us. Others know that we love the Lord because they can see it on our faces.

“Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; their faces will never be ashamed.” Psalm 34:5

Remember Moses. Moses spent 40 days and nights with the Lord. When he descended from Mount Sinai, his face shone so brightly that he had to wear a veil. All Israel knew that he had been with the Lord (Exodus 34:29-35).

Do others know that we have been with the Lord? Do our faces radiate the beauty of God’s love or something else?

I pray for the newlyweds and all of us to flourish in our relationships. May we guard our time spent with our Lord and never grow too busy or lose sight of the Lord’s beauty to us. May our faces radiate with joy.

Closing Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for loving us and desiring a relationship with us. Please forgive us when we get busy and neglect our time with you. Please help us to guard our time with you. Help us to focus on you, give you our burdens, and confess our sins. Help our relationship with you to deepen and grow. May your love and joy fill us so that others can see You in us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Movie: A Greater Yes: The Story of Amy Newhouse This movie is based on a true story about a young woman’s suffering, but she still let her light shine for Jesus in her community. Her life emulated God’s love. This movie challenged and encouraged me.
Song: Beauty of the Lord by Desperation Band This song reminds me of the Lord’s goodness and beauty.
Song: Open the Eyes of My Heart by Paul Baloche What a wonderful prayer for us to open our hearts to God’s beautiful love! May we desire Him more than anything else.
Question for Reflection

What does your countenance say? Can others tell that you have been with your Savior?

When I was in college, I met a lady one summer at camp. She loved Jesus and her face radiated his love. I wanted to be like that. To love Jesus and shine for him. I pray that my life and countenance emulate God’s beautiful love.
