After Jeff and I got married, we settled into a tiny bungalow with our one rusty car.
We started to save our money for a new car, but our car soon died. I wanted to get a loan, but my husband refused.
He reassured me, "God promises to meet all of our needs, and this is a real need."
"But it doesn't work that way," I protested. "We need a car now."
Jeff disagreed, "God will provide in His perfect timing."
I worried, while Jeff trusted. For a few weeks, we borrowed vehicles and wondered if we were doing the right thing. I buried my head in my pillow at night and sobbed.
Lord, I want to believe, but I don't. Why aren't you answering my prayers and keeping your promise?
“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Matthew 21:22
A few days later, I opened our mailbox and received a check for the remaining balance needed to buy a car. Tears streamed down my face while I folded my trembling hands in gratitude to God.
Why had I doubted? Was it because I had no control, and I had to trust that God's answer was the best (even if it was No)?
What in our lives seems too hard for God? What prayer request is still unanswered?
I would like to say that my faith has increased, but I still struggle. I maximize my problems and minimize God. I forget His faithful promises and fight for control.
My faith increases as I gain a proper perspective of God and trust in His plan.
He is the Potter, and I am the clay. He molds me into what He knows is best for me (even if I don't understand or like the outcome).
When we pray in faith, we believe God will answer in His timing and in His way. That might mean yes, no, or wait. But whatever the answer, we know nothing is impossible for Him.
We need to encourage each other with answers to prayers and remind ourselves of God's faithful promises.

Trusting the Lord for our first car stretched my faith, but it prepared me for bigger challenges throughout our ministry. I would like to say I have it all figured out, but I still struggle and have to continually lean on God’s promises. When we returned from the field and needed jobs, vehicles, and a place to stay, God faithfully orchestrated all the details and met each of our needs. He always keeps his promises and meets our needs.
