“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.”
1 Corinthians 3:6-7

Talking to people about Jesus is one of the most incredible things we can do, and yet it still makes me so nervous! The other day I was on a run and noticed spots along the trail with benches. I saw people walking who seemed sad and I thought it would be neat to set up a little area to hand out water bottles and pray for people.

This idea terrified me, but I felt like God might be leading me to this, so I texted a friend who has mentioned her passion for evangelism and she gladly agreed to join me. A few weeks later we lugged my mini cooler filled with water bottles and a basket of granola bars down this trail, looking for benches. The areas with benches were not where I expected, so we walked for a while and finally found a place to set up. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but my friend reminded me that we were responsible for obeying God and could leave the rest up to Him. We waited and talked, and a few people stopped by to grab a water or granola bar. At first, I literally turned away from people because I was so nervous, but as time went on and I saw my friend’s example, I started greeting people as they walked by. One man said he didn’t need a snack, but he could use prayer, continuing to walk. So, my friend and I prayed for him as we saw him walking away.

Nothing crazy happened, and we didn’t directly lead any people to Jesus, but we were faithful in what we thought God wanted us to do in that moment, serving the community He placed us in. I’m so grateful that God provides community for us to follow Him with, and I’m so grateful for my friend’s willingness to come alongside me and help me walk in obedience and faith. Even more so, I’m grateful that God is the One who is in control of all the details. That takes off so much pressure! God is the One who truly knows each heart, so I can trust that He is working His will even when I don’t see fruit.

Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You that You are the One who makes Your Word take root and grow. We praise You for calling us to be Your ambassadors (2 Cor. 5:20) and for giving Your Holy Spirit to indwell us. Thank You for letting us be part of Your Kingdom work. Would You use us for Your Kingdom in whatever way pleases You, Father? Would you grow our hearts to be compassionate and bold for Your glory? We love You and are eager to serve You however You see fit. In the Name of our Savior Jesus we gratefully pray! Amen.
Resources
Scripture: Romans Recently I came across the doxology at the end of Romans, and was blown away by how powerful it is. Pray (or sing!) a doxology out loud to God, and remind yourself and others of how beautiful His Gospel is. Cultivating a love for God’s Gospel will help us to naturally talk about it with those around us!
Question for Reflection

I’m so thankful that God provided a friend who I knew would be willing to help me obey God’s nudge to evangelize. My friend boldly brought up her passion for evangelism in a group Bible study, so I knew that she was passionate about this. How can you start conversations about sharing God’s love with others in your community? We are not alone in our mission as ambassadors. In fact, today’s passage states that “we are co-workers in God’s service” (1 Cor. 3:9)!

One thing I admired about my friend was her honesty—she said she felt awkward but still obeyed God when she felt nudged to witness to others. I can start by honestly talking with friends about how I’m working on small acts of obedience, and ask them questions to see how they follow God’s callings and show His love to others.
