“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Ephesians 6:12

Hello ladies! As you join me for this devotional today, may the truth of these next three statements wash over you with encouragement today.

We have been fearfully and wonderfully made!

Our bodies, minds, and souls are complex and created on purpose by the God of the universe.

Jesus entered humanity and He became one of us. When He was on earth, He healed people emotionally, spiritually, and physically and He continues to do that now.

Jesus is the Great Physician, so let’s talk about healing a little more. In the Gospels, we see Jesus bring healing to people’s minds, bodies, and souls. But when I think about the subject of healing, it seems that Christians sometimes compartmentalize healing. Some think of only the physical healing part, others only the emotional, and others only the spiritual. Yet God wants us to know His healing presence in all aspects! We can invite God to shed His light of truth into every aspect of our difficulties.

Medical doctors are a gift from God as He has allowed people to learn about the body and has even provided resources to help with symptoms and to sometimes provide cures. The mind is complex but there are resources, therapists, and healthy practices that can help with mental healing. And then there is the spiritual healing which is, at times, overlooked in the church circles I am in.

The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” So if you are prone to sometimes look at struggles and health problems from an approach of physical or mental health, I encourage you to also consider the question, “what’s going on spiritually in this situation?” Let’s not ignore the spiritual component, because God wants to bring His light and hope into all areas of life. We are in a spiritual battle. The Bible has a lot to say on this, so let’s not be naive to what might be going on in the spiritual reality around us. We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus, so let’s stand in the authority of Christ and silence the lies of the enemy that can affect us physically and emotionally.

So as you pray for healing for yourself or others today, ask God to show you what is going on spiritually in your situation.

Closing Prayer
Father God, thank You that I am fearfully and wonderfully made! My mind and body are so complex, but You understand every part of me. Often times the struggles that I and others go through have physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual components to them. You understand all these things. Please teach me how to pray and to stand in the authority that I have because of Jesus. Help me to see things with greater understanding than just what my physical eyes can see. Give me wisdom and discernment and help me to look to You for understanding. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Resources
Podcast: Season 1, Episode 8 – Authority In Christ, Everfree Ministries Everfree has been a really helpful resource for me as I grow in my understanding of standing in the authority of Christ in the spiritual battle that we are in according to Ephesians 6. Their podcasts help equip believers from many church backgrounds. I would especially recommend Season 1, Episode 8, “Authority In Christ” from April 3, 2019.
Question for Reflection

Can you think of a situation in the past when more was going on than what it seemed? When God gave you wisdom to discern a deeper issue than what was being presented?

I recently had a conversation with a dear friend. She has moved to a new country and is struggling with adapting to the culture. In her ministry situation, she is having challenges communicating with her boss. She wishes he gave her more feedback. I can understand where she is coming from because I appreciate feedback too. But as we continued in the conversation, I felt the Lord encouraging me to look deeper into the situation than what was going on on the surface. I asked my friend what benefit would having more feedback provide for her. And then the real issues started coming to the surface. A need for identity, a need for confirmation, a need to feel like she was enough…needs that can only truly be met in Jesus. This was an emotional and spiritual battle. The enemy was whispering lies to her that, once they were identified, Jesus could come in with His healing truth.
