“I need wisdom in this period of transition.”
“Please pray for wisdom regarding who to hire for the open position.”
“We want to spend our time wisely in this season.”
As we go around the circle at our home fellowship sharing our prayer requests, many of them are simply for wisdom to deal with the situations we find ourselves in in our ministries and lives. It reminds me of Solomon; the one thing he requested from God was wisdom to lead. (1 Kings 3:5-14) And it made God so happy! In 1 Kings 3:10 it says “It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this,” and He granted his request.
In James 1:5-8 it says that if we need wisdom and we ask for it, our generous God is happy to give it to us! But it warns that if we doubt God’s heart to give us wisdom that we won’t receive anything from the Lord. Pretty harsh!
It’s a beautiful thing to express to God that we don’t know what to do and we need His help. This is what Solomon did. And our neediness doesn’t disappoint or burden God, it actually attracts Him to us and gives Him a chance to pour out His miraculous wisdom and favor.
I encourage you to identify the areas of your life and ministry where you don’t feel like you know what to do or how to do it. Ask God for His wisdom to take over in the place of your weaknesses. Believe that your generous Father desires to give you the wisdom that you need. Imagine the joy that He has when you ask and He gets to pour it out!
Is there anything that you have been trying to do in your own strength that you need to request God’s wisdom for?
As my husband and I have been working through visa processes I have definitely been guilty of looking to the practical next steps and trying to solve things with my knowledge. I need to grow in asking God for wisdom and seeking that wisdom throughout the process.
