A Provider of All Our Needs

A Provider of All Our Needs
"For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer …”
1 Peter 3:12

God promises to answer us when we pray. In 1 John 5:15 it says: "And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.” Once again, God would demonstrate this in quite an extraordinary way.

Furlough was coming up and I was experiencing a range of emotions. I wasn’t too sure if I should smile or cry. Unlike many of my colleagues who usually go on furlough to a couple of cities to reconnect with supporting churches and ministry partners and then rest, I was going to travel to 11 different cities in the span of four months. In terms of logistics, a lot had to be arranged—airfare, accommodation, transportation, meals while traveling…etc.

According to my estimated calculation, the total cost would be over $12,000 (USD). The amount would increase if I flew on any domestic airlines or decrease if I flew Southwest Airlines, the most economical domestic airline that allows two free checked bags and two free carry-ons. Many other questions had to be sorted out. Would I have to stay at an Airbnb, a hotel, or stay with welcoming friends? Would I need to rent a car, use Uber to go from place to place, or would some friends invite me to borrow their car during the short period of time I would be in their town? How about meals—would I be eating all three meals out every day or would any of the families I would be staying with invite me to eat with them? All of these details had to be thought out months in advance, arranged and booked accordingly, especially if I wanted to book the best and most economical price.

While the funding had already been provided for, what concerned me the most was the accommodation. I was a little too embarrassed to approach anyone, especially in Colorado. I had a close friend there, but their house was being renovated. As time to head to Colorado was approaching, I turned to God and asked Him to help me find accommodation and sort out all the details. Three weeks before my arrival in Colorado, I received a text message from my friend June asking, “Hi. I'm just wondering if you have lodging and a vehicle? You could stay here… Just let me know if you have already planned lodging or if you need a place, we're happy to have you stay with us. Love, June.”

Then, five days before my arrival in Colorado, I received a text message from my friend Maisa asking: “Hi C. How are you? What day are you coming in? Do you want me to pick you up? I’m trying to plan things.”

God provides for all our needs. Oh, the number of prayers we would see come to pass, if we only prayed and believed. God is true to His promises, He provides for all our needs—and “all” means all — whether it be big or small.

Closing Prayer
Lord, You are so good and generous to us. Thank You for taking care of all our needs according to Your riches in glory. Sometimes, we pray and even forget what we prayed for, but You have ways to surprise us and You bring it to pass, reminding us that You do not forget to fulfill Your promises. Thank You, Heavenly Father. Amen.
Question for Reflection

What daring prayer have you made lately and seen God answer?

When I was in Texas, I was planning on staying at an Airbnb apartment for 12 days, but when some friends heard about it, they suggested I stay at their family’s condo instead. It helped me save $900.
Then, as I have prayed for God to provide for my accommodation and transportation in all the cities I will be visiting, I have seen Him provide in big ways. All my housing has been confirmed in every city. Concerning transportation, so far I have always had transportation by very kind, generous friends who have offered I use their car. A church even offered to take care of the rental car expenses while I was visiting their city, but someone had already offered me their car to use. God has provided in abundance indeed.
